JKF Goes To The Movies: The Dark Knight Rises
Happy Monday, everyone! So last week, the JK fam went to the midnight premier of The Dark Knight Rises. This movie was pretty hyped up, so we were all super excited to see how it was going to turn out. Some of us were hardcore Batman fans and some were just in it for the experience. So what did we think of the movie and how does it stack up against the previous Batman movies? The JK Team dishes it out. Don’t worry, you won’t find any spoilers here, so no need to approach with caution.
David So joined us for our night out. We went to In-N-Out for dinner before heading to the theaters. These gangster ass bitches both had 4x4s that night. Even on crutches, they’re beasts.
Anh is sad she isn’t tall and crippled.
It’s official! We’re in.
#TDKR all day, everyday.
No movie experience is complete without popcorn and sweets. The ArcLight Cinemas are known for their caramel popcorn. So damn good.
Group shot of us being stoked before the movie begins.
What did you think of The Dark Knight Rises? What do you have to say about the movie?
Bart: To be honest, I suck at staying up late. I was falling asleep by the middle of the movie. I can’t give a good review on the movie. Anne Hathaway killed it on Catwoman though. I wish Bane was more twisted and evil. He sounded like Mr. Belvedere. I’m probably gonna watch it again ’cause I fell asleep.
Joe: I love Batman… so much that I wish I was Batman… but an Asian version. Maybe I just want his money and cool gadgets. I don’t want his responsibility though, that seems really stressful and heavy. What kind of dumb cops do they have at Gotham? They never do their job and they are helpless against all the criminals there. It was freakin’ awesome though. I loved The Dark Knight Rises and I want to make sex to Catwoman. Not Anne Hathaway though, just Catwoman, in her suit… so sexy!
Geo: I genuinely liked The Dark Knight Rises. People say it doesn’t compare to The Dark Knight AND I agree, HOWEVER, Nolan did a great job with story development and character development (EXCEPT for Bane, I wanted more from him). I enjoyed how the characters’ motivations were so well developed that at any given moment in the movie, any one of them could have been the main focal point of the movie.
Another thing I really enjoyed about this movie was Catwoman. GIRL POWER! I loved how she wasn’t this sex bomb oozing of raunchy leather, big boobs, red lipstick, and sexualness. He made her very smart, caring, cunning, and cut-throat. She was self sufficient and self sustaining, and always a true lady! I have to watch it again!
Casey: The movie was alright. I’m a big fan of Christopher Nolan movies, but #Rises falls way short of his signature storytelling caliber. As the biggest project to helm, and I loved TDK and Inception, Nolan created a muddy storyline that is neither driven by strong performances nor strong writing in Rises. It fails to capture what Batman Begins did back in 2005 when Nolan first unleashed his Batman universe upon the world. I feel that Begins does the best job in creating a plot where as the viewer, you feel as though you are Batman and you felt every sense of the world’s pain and fear as you embark on a journey with Bruce Wayne. In Rises, I find myself merely a third person onlooker that can only sympathize with the city of Gotham… meaning I didn’t give a fuck about the characters nor the plot. My biggest gripe about Rises is Bane… now we have two psychos in this movie that we can’t understand. Conversations between Bane and Batman are laughable. Which brings me to the comparison of the Joker… Bane is boring and unthreatening, which to me, already fails to up the stakes at the villain role. The addition of Catwoman was annoying at times, mainly because her cheesy one-liners and over-the-top delivery of those cheesy one-liners. But in defense of Anne Hathaway, she does a great job in creating vulnerability in Selina Kyle which makes her a believable character– just not when she’s trying to be all badass and shit. Michael Cane aka Alfred fucking steals the show… I’m leaving it at that.
Summing up some other thoughts… Joseph Gordon Levitt’s character is awesome for many reasons. Batman still looks dumb as fuck when he fights, but I got over that in Batman Begins. And gah damn I miss HEATH LEDGER.
All in all I liked the movie. Rises is worth the one ticket to go see it, but with that being said… TDK was worth the 8 more times I went to go see it.
Tommy: The Dark Knight Rises overall was a good film. Cons: Bane wasn’t a great villain and there were some unnecessary cheesy
Kevin: I didn’t see it, but it’s already been spoiled for me thanks to those who did watch it. #PrayForAurora #PrayForColorado
I do plan on watching it… maybe when it’s out of theaters. Or if anyone wants to go with me, you’re more than welcome to join
Anh: The movie was pretty damn epic and entertaining as hell. BUT…all of the twists were pretty predictable. I was surprised and glad however that Catwoman ended up being a likeable character. All in all, I definitely would recommend it.
Anhieee: I’m not a hardcore Batman fan or anything, nor do I follow the comics, so I wasn’t offended by any changes to the storyline or the characters. With that being said, my movie experience was quite enjoyable (other than the anxiety of knowing that I had to be awake for work the next morning) and you should definitely go watch it.
Pros: There was plenty of Joseph Gordon-Levitt for my liking. He’s so dapper! I also enjoy movies where at some point I go, “Fuck yeah! That was badass!” and I got to do that during this movie, so yeah.
Cons: It was really difficult for me to make out whatever Bane was saying. I kept catching myself leaning closer to the movie screen every time he appeared in a scene, hoping I could hear him better. Also, I get really uncomfortable when it comes to mob mentality situations, so Gotham City really pissed me off at some points. What the fuck, Gotham City… THINK FOR YOURSELVES… AND BEHAVE!
Bruce: I am planning on watching it when it’s up online! People already spoiled the movie already… so I will not pay $12 on a movie that’s been spoiled for me. I am expecting nothing from the movie ’cause the first movie, “The Dark Knight,” is going to be better. Joker is always better than Bane! R.I.P Heath Ledger
Thanks for joining us on our movie adventure! Tune in for our next adventure, JKF goes to the OC Fair!
