The London 2012 Olympics: We Dig It

TGIF! TGIF! Today marks the first week of the 2012 Olympic Games in London. For those who haven’t been watching or aren’t caught up with what’s going on, the events have been pretty intense! Regarding medals, it’s pretty much been a struggle for dominance between China and the United States. For those who have been watching, you guys should know how freakin’ addicting these competitions are. Even if we don’t usually watch sports or are athletic ourselves, we can’t help but be interested in how our team is doing and secretly wishing we were out there kicking ass too.

Which Olympic sports do you like to watch and why? Do you have any favorite athletes? Any other comments you’d like to add?

Bart: I like to watch boxing, wrestling, judo, and taekwondo; pretty much all the combative sports. My favorite athlete would have to be Usain Bolt ’cause that muthafucka is fast as a muthafucka and he’s hella fast.

Joe: I watch the volleyball, Michelle Jenneke, and the judos.

Geo: I love everything swimming!! Since I actually started paying attention to the athletes and the sport itself, I have really learned to appreciate it and I fell in love with it.  Before, I was all about gymnastics, but after swimming, I’m not feeling it as much anymore.

My ultimate favorite will FOREVER be volleyball.  Both team and beach volleyball.  I’m bias since I played the sport in college. Volleyball is my shit!!! GO USA!

Casey: Olympic basketball! I like watching this event ’cause I like basketball in general. The team is comprised of all the familiar faces of the NBA, so it’s easy to follow and as a viewer, I have more attachment to them. It’s always interesting to see NBA players play with each other and not against each other as they would in the NBA… ahem LBJ and KD (they’re playing pretty well together right now).

Tommy: I didn’t watch much of the Olympics so far, but I did view basketball and soccer. Those are my favorite sports. LA all the way… you probably know who I’m cheering for. Sorry if you don’t like him. I sport my home. Period. Oh, I did see South Korea get screwed twice… in soccer and fencing.

Kevin: Any sport. I just love competition. I like rooting for people from Long Beach State. Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh-Jennings (Women’s Beach Volleyball) is always exciting to watch.

Other comments: All the ladies are going goo-goo-ga-ga over men’s swimming and men’s gymnastics. Especially Germany’s Marcel Nguyen. I don’t know where I’m going with this. I wish breakdancing was in the Olympics.

Anh
: I watch whatever is on when I get home from work. My favorite part of the Olympics is watching how patriotic everyone gets, especially Anhieee. Nothing like some good ol’ competition and pageantry to bring a whole nation together.

Anhieee
: I’m down to watch any event, but I’m particularly interested in swimming, beach volleyball, and track&field. Probably because I suck at all three of those sports, so I try to live vicariously through them. I just enjoy competition. It’s addicting like crack. I think it’s freakin’ amazing how the whole world can get together every 4 years to compete peacefully together. It’s good to know that some traditions still last. My favorite athletes? Team USA all the way. ‘Cause even if they lose, they look damn good doing it. USA! USA!

(In response to Kevin: Hell yeah, I would like one of each please. And even my mom has noticed Marcel Nguyen and Nathan Adrian LOL)

Daniel
: I like to watch swimming because it’s cool how people look like dolphins.

Bruce: I like to watch men’s basketball, gymnastics, and swimming . My favorite athlete has to be Carmelo Anthony ’cause he’s my favorite NBA player. I also like Nathan Adrian ’cause he’s half chinese and he also won a gold medal in swimming. I think Ryan Lochte should be a be male model after he retires from swimming because a lot of girls think he’s HOT.

We can’t wait to see the upcoming sports as the games continue and are curious as to how the results will unfold. The London 2012 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony will be on August 12, so tune in to see how it all ends!
